Creating Charts and Dashboards

A dashboard in Superset is a collection of charts organized to provide meaningful insights at a glance. Charts are created using datasets and can be added to new or existing dashboards.

Steps to Create a Dashboard

1. Open Dashboards

Navigate to the Dashboards page:

  • Go to the Dashboards section to see all your existing dashboards.
  • If you don’t have an existing dashboard, create a new one by clicking + Dashboard.

2. Create a New Dashboard

If creating a new dashboard:

  • Click + Dashboard, provide a meaningful name for your dashboard, and save it. New Dashboard

3. Add Charts to Your Dashboard

You can add existing charts or create new ones directly from your dashboard. Pick Chart


Steps to Create a Chart

Charts are visual representations of data and are created using datasets. Follow these steps to create a chart:

1. Click + Create New Chart in the dashboard.

2. Select a Dataset

  • Choose an existing dataset or create your own dataset.

3. Select a Chart Type

  • Choose a chart type that best represents your data (e.g., pie chart, bar chart).

4. Configure Query Settings

  • Use the query builder to define metrics, dimensions, and filters.
  • Customize your query as needed.

5. Preview the Chart

  • Click Create Chart to generate a preview and ensure it meets your requirements.

6. Save the Chart

  • Provide a name for your chart and select the dashboard where it should be added.
  • Click Save, select your dashboard then click Save & Go to Dashboard to confirm.

View and Organize Your Dashboard

  • Go to your dashboard and verify the newly added chart is displayed.

Use the drag-and-drop editor to arrange charts, add titles, and apply filters for better insights.
